Canoe Trip along the shores of Manitoulin Island

 

DUE TO LACK OF REGISTRATIONS, THE THROUGH THE WAVES OF HISTORY CANOE TRIP HAS BEEN CANCELLED FOR THE 2017 YEAR. WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE.

The main focus of Through the Waves of History, canoe trip on the shores of Manitoulin Island is to look at First
Nation history from a First Nation’s perspective. Through the Waves of History is an opportunity for educators,
students and tourists to learn about a First Nations history that is not present in the Canadian education system.
 
The canoe trip will provide educators with the knowledge and understanding of how history was shaped by First
Nation contribution.
 
The stories and teachings will begin by looking at the effects of Residential Schools on individuals and
communities in the past and today, the war effort in World War 1 and 2, the fight for equal rights, current realities
in the communities, land claims and self-government. There will be stories from legends to day-to-day life in a
First Nations community. Each evening, participants will engage in unique campfire storytelling.
 
Note: Limited space available (15 people max./ per trip). Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-serve
basis. If 15 people do not register per trip, the trip will be cancelled.

Course Outline

Outfitting
Guides, nature/cultural interpreters, food and canoe-camping equipment is supplied, except for sleeping bag
and pad, personal items, feast bag (plates, cups, forks, spoons, water bottle, headlamps etc.), towels and rain gear.
 
Transportation

Participants will meet at Weengushk Film Institute for safety meeting and a departure and return transporation
from basecamp to departure point is included in the tour cost.
 
Tour Difficulty Rating

Through the Waves of History is suitable for beginners and experienced canoers.
 
Emergency Evacuation

If illness, injury or safety requires your evacuation, you pay the cost of evacuation.
 
Change of Itinerary

We reserve the right to alter itineraries, change routes, or cancel a tour if your safety or factors beyond our
control make this necessary.
 
Release Forms

Each participant must sign an outdoor adventure liability waiver and health confirmation form upon registration.
 
Travel, Medical & Cancellation Insurance

Not included in the trip cost.
 
Payment, Cancellation and Refund Policy

Minimum deposit of 25% of trip cost is required upon registration. Balance due 30 days prior to departure.
Cancellation of booking prior to 30 days before departure will result in loss of 50% of tour cost. Cancellation of
booking 14 days or less, will result in a 100% of tour cost. If WFI cancels a tour, we will refund all booking fees
paid.
