LAB 1 is Weengushk Film Institute’s foundational hands-on film production program. Students build skills in screenwriting, producing, directing, cinematography, editing, composing, and marketing while learning in a supportive environment with small class sizes and personalized guidance. As part of the program, students create a short film as their culminating project, gaining practical experience from concept to completion. Student films are showcased through the Weengushk International Film Festival and other festival opportunities, helping open the door to industry connections and future creative pathways. LAB 1 is designed not only to teach filmmaking, but to help students grow in confidence, communication, and creative voice. Rooted in Indigenous storytelling and real-world learning, the program gives emerging creators a strong foundation in both craft and purpose.
