BUSINESS OF FILM (ONLINE)
The Business of Film is a 12-WEEK online course that is focused on all business aspects of content creation, finance as well as the documentation. Participants learn the ABCs of TV/Film and Digital Media industries in an interactive course that provides essential business information from concept to production to distribution.
Students are introduced to major television and film markets while gaining insight into production and distribution opportunities. The course highlights personalized consultation with the instructor(s) who, as seasoned industry professionals, provide “real-world” insights into production ideas and proposals.
By the end of the course, students will thoroughly understand the business imperatives of the industry, and will walk away with a wealth of practical knowledge to implement in their careers.
This program is designed to teach the fundamentals of the business of producing and executive producing for a variety of TV, Film and Digital media productions. Students will learn to prepare a package to pitch, pull a production team together, complete the necessary documentation required by a broadcaster, funding agency or distributor, and learn how to set up a production.
The certificate program will cover such topics as writing a treatment and script analysis, marketing strategies that include digital and multi-platform content, and production management skills. Attendees will also acquire skills in negotiations, contract construction, budget analysis, etc.

Weengushk Film Institute is located just outside of M'Chigeeng First Nation on Manitoulin Island. The island is the largest freshwater lake island in the world, surrounded by Lake Huron, Georgian Bay and the North Channel. The natural beauty of the island and the cultural history, make WFI's location a prime spot for media production.
Filming in the North
Manitoulin Island is approximately two-hours southeast of Sudbury - a prime location for the film industry in Northern Ontario. With ties to the Northern Film Industry, WFI students have successfully transitioned into industry professionals.
