For over 30 years, Peter Svab has worked on hundred of hours of film and television in Europe, India and North America as an editor, director, cinematographer and producer.

 

Born in Czechoslovakia, Peter began his career as photographer. He went on to receive his Masters in Film and Television Production (MgA) at the Prague’s prestigious  Academy of Performing Arts.

Throughout his career in Czechoslovakian national TV he directed and edited wide variety of documentaries and television dramas. For many years he directed at the International Television Festival ‘Golden Prague’.

 

In Canada and United States Peter edited films such as “Laserhawk”, “Angel Square”, “The Father I Knew” and “The Growing Pains Movie”, to name just a few.

His directing credits include highly praised “None of the Actors Should Leave the Stage..” (narrated by Timothy Findley), “Duel in the Sky” and “Looking to the Light” (Greg Louganis story).

 

For nine years Peter has served as a board member of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television and head of the jury for Genie and Gemini awards. He has also participated as a jury member for the Yorkton and Quebec/Alberta festivals, and pre-selection jury for Cannes and Academy Awards.

 

In recent years, Peter has worked as an advisor to producers and directors in the development and production of many film and television projects. He was a mentor for DGC – Kick Start Film Project and introduced a seven-week intensive workshop ”Making Movies”, at University of Fraser Valley in British Columbia,  to share his knowledge and experience with the next generation of young filmmakers. 

Peter is presently developing a television movie - comedy for co-production between Canada and India.
